How to Dress for an Open Casting Call
Attending a modeling agency open call is your one chance to shine and impress the agency enough to offer you a contract. However, despite the atmosphere, you don't have to dress like you're about to hit the runway.
1£®Get there with plenty of time. While open casting calls don't require appointments, it is a first come, first serve type of event so if you don't make it through the doors on time, you're out of luck until the next casting call. Most open calls don't last more than 1-2 hours. The earlier, the better.
2£®Your jeans should show off your natural curves. This isn't the time to flaunt your impressive fashion wardrobe. Keep it simple. Agencies want to see you not your clothes. Ladies, stick to a pair of well-fitting jeans--same for the guys. But avoid wearing jeans with holes in them or bright colors.
3£®Keep it as simple as wearing a tank top.Young ladies can stick to a simple tank top or baby tee. Avoid wearing shirts with distracting designs such as logos, words, and brand names. Also stay away from stripes, polka dots and plaids. Choose a color that complements your skin tone.
4£®You don't have to wear a muscle shirt.Fellas can wear a regular shirt as well. The same rules apply for the design.
5£®Avoid wearing huge plaform shoes or really high heels. As far as shoes, guys should stick to clean and comfortable shoes. No need for dress shoes. Ladies should stick to heels no higher than 2-3 inches. Agencies measure you without your shoes so don't look to high heels to save you in the height department.
6£®Come fresh faced with no makeup. For both men and women, be makeup free. If you've got a blemish or two, secure it with minimal concealer but do not apply foundation or powder. At most wear a light coat of mascara (no tarantula eyes!) and clear lip gloss. But it's best to not wear anything at all.
7£®Wear your hair how you normally would. Up or down does not matter but make sure it is out of your face. Do not spend time or money getting a new cut and style--they want to see what you look like on a daily basis.
*Avoid getting a new hair color or cut prior to your casting call if you don't want to keep your look very long. If the agency loves your look they may not want you to change it. Stick to a look that you know you'll like and be comfortable with.
*Just because you aren't required to dress up doesn't mean you should look like a bum either. Make sure your clothes are clean, stain-free and not full of holes.
Great tips, especially about the make up and wardrobe.
The clients MUST see you as a blank canvas, wearing clothes and make up that show your personality limits you to just that and versatility is very important!
